A Marie Antoinette Trilogy

Hi Everyone,

Hope you have all had a good day. I've beeen lucky enough to have a free day and so was able to settle down to play in my craftroom for a while. I thought today I would make some a.t.c's with a slight difference. Usually I am an inky, stainy, distressing, stamping, kind of bod, so thought today I would set myself a little challenge to make these mini works of art without using any of the above techniques!!1 What I hear you gasp, no distress!!1 No, today I went back to where it all began....making little atc's using papers and glues images and embellishments, and I have to say I really enjoyed it, it made a nice change, although they took longer to make than I seem to remember! Or have I just become more particular in my old age.

So, here we have a young Marie Antoinette

The base card was covered in Lawrence LLewellyn damask paper. Onto this was layered a vellum damask in gold, followed by a vintage letter, in french, all set at a jaunty angle. (looking at the pic, not sure you can see this!!! note to self don't shake the camera!!! LOL ) The image was a free download , which I mounted on 3d foam tabs for height, while the little crown was cut from the same paper pack.
The shield and cherubs were a die cut, which necded a little something, so the tiny Eiffel tower embellishment was great and fitted perfectly. Added heavy burgundy trim to the base before glossy accenting the shild on. Three French stamps, two little flowers, and........no, left out the partridge in a pear tree!!!! Tee Hee!!

Next we have an older Marie, beautifully poised for her portrait.

I used the same paper pack for the base, as above and then some lush torn hand made paper for the next layer, again adding a little french script paper. The frame is felt and has been in my stash for longer than I can remember! Again a free image cut slightly larger than the frame covered in acetate and placed behine the aperture. Went a little over the top with the tiny wee gems, but hey ho.The small shield was mounted as before and a wax seal made for the corner, hiding the tassle attachment. A ceramic flower button finished the project

The last of the trilogy is an older and grumpier Marie!! and yes " LET THEM EAT CAKE! "....YUM says me.

The base of this, is an old photographic advertisment, again a free download. as is the main image, which I cut out and mounted on 3d foam to give some dimension. A lace trim was added to the left border and a mini tag of the Eiffel tower. The cup cake and sign, I think are papermania as is the little one in Marie's hand! Finally, crystal trim was attached to the base......C'est Fini!!!

Hope you enjoyed looking at what I've been up to today. Pop back soon, until then......
Happy Crafting  Moments
Hugs and Good Wishes

  4. Hi Carol,
How hard i would have found this task.
I have NEVER made ATC cards, at the time I thought them to be too arty for me.
    How things change.

The hard part would have been the ban on all things inky, I would have been distressed not being able to distress.

I love the cards that you have made, if i had to pick an order of my faves it would be:
Youngest (I am so in love with this colour)
    Oldest
    Middle
But saying that they are all fab, do you think you would do more?
I like what you said about going back to where it all began. I think my next task for my friend and i will be on that line.
I have always been a crafter one way or another, but the more serious cards started with a light box, brass stencils and fluid chalks. That would make a good challenge, back to basics.

I finished the money box. Not my best but still happy with it. I can hardly wait to hear what you think about our task for tomorrow and next Wednesday. If you get chance have a look at my WOYWW 189 #152
    Kindest Regards,
    Nelle xxx

  13. Thanks for the heads up to view your trilogy. How wonderful to capture her at 3 different ages. One of my first challenge wins was a Marie ATC at Gingersnap Creations. She was posing with a cupcake! I love all your details and embellies and the off center expansion from the base.
